I had some time to kill today so I decided to check out Public Gun and Pawn in Hollywood, Florida. The store immediately makes an impression on you. You will walk in to find an gentleman kicked back in a chair watching a big screen TV that seems to be the focal point the rest of the store was designed around. From behind the counter another gentleman (Allen I think) asks me "what are you interested in." I told him was looking for a Smith and Wesson 1006 and we laughed together at the same time - his laughter implied "good luck" while I laughed to imply i already knew i was out of luck. But without hesitation, he shows me his Colt Delta Elite (also a 10mm gun) and starts rattling off his customizations. This is one of my favorite types of gun guys. Someone who is excited about what a gun is in and of itself and what it can become beyond its most basic purpose. Obviously a collector, he had some tips for how to get hold of what I wanted via gunbroker.com and what not. Then he wandered off to unload some stuff.
I then turned my attention to another counter area full of used guns where I was pleasantly surprised at what I found. I had already visited Public Gun and Pawns website and had gone through their online inventory of used guns. I didn't really expect the actual stock to match the website, but from my best recollection, it totally did. I saw all the guns they had posted online in the counter ready for sale and in the conditions they had stated on the website. This is a really big deal to me. I am amazed at how many gun stores have websites that don't accurately represent inventory or condition thereof. I can't imagine those that don't have such high quality web sites with accurate inventory will succeed. This doesn't just let me know what they have, it also lets me know that quality is important to them and you can't beat that with a stick.
A helpful young lady accompanied me up and down the counter happy to fetch me whichever piece I wanted to look at while a younger gentleman employee watched from a distance ready to pounce and snap my neck at a moments notice if I got fresh. HA. not really, but he was good at pretending not to pay attention so I suspect he has security of the store in mind as well. I was really only interested in used pistols, but they had most of the new standard poly state of the line stuff too. M&P, XD, Beretta etc etc..all the usual suspects were there. There were also plenty of hunting and tactical rifles on the wall if that's your thing so a good inventory was represented throughout the store.
Overall I really got the impression that this is a gun store run by people who know what they are talking about and enjoy what they do. I also love a very large sign they have on the front door that says "Browsers Welcome". Since I am piss poor, that totally means me! Public Gun and Pawn is located 6798 Stirling Rd.
