Serious trouble in for gun owners in Illinois
01/02/13 04:43 PM

I do apologize for my first post being one about politics, which are just about my least favorite thing, next to tomatoes, and crappy triggers. As usual, Illinois is getting the short end of the stick when it comes to gun regulation. We're currently at a serious risk of losing our right to own most or all semiautomatic handguns within the week, due to recent news and a lame duck session. This is quite serious and not NRA tinfoil hat-ism.

Seems like once the supreme court rules against you it should be some kind of light treason to continue to make those laws or try to enforce them.

This, primarily from people in a city with one of the highest gun violence rates in the country, yet no concealed carry and little to no way for a citizen to own a firearm legally.

I, for one, feel extremely safe walking around the city unarmed by my 130 pound self at night. And by 'extremely safe', I actually mean, 'gee, I really wish I could carry a well-maintained firearm so I could have a fighting chance against ending up like any of my friends who have been assaulted or mugged'!

Not going to happen, he can introduce anything he wants but the constitution and a resent court order says otherwise. the supreme court just gave the state of Illinois 180 days to come up with a plan to allow people to CC and on top of that the present Gov. said he was working with law makers to draft laws and statutes for CC.

I think this is a legitimate threat.

It wasn't the Supreme Court, it was the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. What they actually ruled was that the ban on concealed carry was unconstitutional and that the restrictions on such a program could not be unduly burdensome.

If they passed this ban, they could still have a concealed carry program while banning the guns. While this makes no common sense it absolutely could make legal sense - at least as far as causing another lawsuit.

Basically, they say "Look, we made a concealed carry program. You can have a concealed carry permit. Buuuuut, you can't have any of the firearms you would reasonably want to carry".

It won't hold up in the long run, but it causes several years of legal battles and still no concealed carry for Tisiphone and her fellow Chicagoans.

Agreed. Despite the ruling against the firearms ban in Chicago, lawmakers found ways to make legally owning a firearm in Chicago proper nearly impossible. Citizens are required to take expensive and limited classes, and serious taxes and restrictions are imposed on the firearm, magazines, and ammunition, firearm transportation, and on any business which wants to sell firearms or operate a range.

not going to happen, they would collapse the hunting industry, the firearms industry, they would kill store sales and shut down shops... there would be a class action lawsuit to stop any law that went into effect by numerous groups and not to mention the constitution of the USA that says "shall not be infringed on".  The 7th court said the people have a right to CC so you expect them to do it with a sling shot. Sorry I don’t see a threat I just see someone wanting to make headlines

All I can say is that nothing has stopped lllinois from implementing any of their other ideas. Just ask Tisiphone about how much fun it is to get an FOID or even the routine she goes through to take her guns to a training class or a day at the range.

That state is jacked up something fierce.

i dont see how this could possibly stick.  be fun to see the lawsuits after they are again proven to be breaking the constitution.  Probly bankrupt the state.

No formal updates yet but one of the State Senators pulled his name from being a cosponsor. Look how long they've held this bill waiting for the best time to ramrod it through (in this weeks lame duck session). Shameful.

The latest news is that State Senator John Milliner pulled his name from being a co-sponsor.

I'm reminded of that infamous WWII quote by Niemöller:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

This will be a devastating blow to gun rights everywhere, and motivation for other states to pursue the same type of legislation. If you live or do business in Illinois, please either call a state senator this morning (before the vote at 11) or submit a witness slip opposing the bills, here:

i agree with what you are saying...however. i live in florida.  the entire agriculture department is funded by ccw.  i doubt they will try to take my guns.  you should just come to florida and be a real life member of the easy bake gun club.

I've always wondered how much money Florida makes off CCW for Illinois people! I wish my job had an office in Florida.

A job? Didn't you know that everyone in Florida is either a rapper or a model? Other than Jayson... he has a job. He loves it.
