The headline read "California pension to divest from gunmakers" so I had to take a look because I know CALSTRS (California State Teachers Retirement System) can cause companies to change policies just based on the size of their investment.
How big is CALSTRS? Massive. $165 Billion in assets managed. In short, big enough to make a difference.
So obviously I had to see what it was all about.
And how much is CALSTRS divesting from Sturm Ruger and Smith & Wesson?
A whopping $3 million.
Talk about a press release that's all bark and no bite.
