Off Duty Sheriff drops would be gunman in movie theater (Texas)

Juan Manuel Garcia's girlfriend had broken up with him. Garcia didn't handle that news well at all. Garcia sent the ex-girlfriend a message saying he was going to her workplace, the China Garden Restaurant, to "shoot somebody".

Knowing the threat to be real, the girl called her restaurant to warn them. One problem - she hadn't read the message soon enough. Garcia was already in front of the restaurant shooting at the front door. Garcia went into the restaurant looking for the woman and when he found out she wasn't there he attempted to open fire in the restaurant but his weapon jammed.

As patrons started to flee the restaurant into the next door Santikos Mayan 14 theater, Garcia followed - and this time his gun didn't jam. He shot the windshield of a San Antonio Police Department Squad car after an officer in the car shined the flashlight at him. Garcia then shot one man in the chest before opening fire inside the lobby of the theater.

Lisa Castellano is a Sergeant with the Bexar County Sheriff's Department. To supplement her income she works security at the Santikos Mayan 14 theater on the South side of San Antonio.

Hearing the commotion and doing what heroes do, Lisa ran toward the gunfire. Seeing Garcia come out of a bathroom with his gun drawn, Lisa opened fire - striking him four times in the chest.

"The officer involved, she took the appropriate action to try to keep everyone safe in the movie theater", according to Deputy Lou Antu.

UPDATE: On December 19th, Sergeant Lisa Castellano was awarded the Medal of Valor for her actions at the Mayan Theater. Upon presentation of the medal Lisa was met with a standing ovation from everyone present.
