Around 1:50 yesterday a 14-year-old student at Price Middle School in Atlanta, Georgia pulled out a handgun in the center courtyard and opened fire.
Another school massacre?
No, the young gunman only managed to fire off a handful of rounds before an off-duty armed School Resource Officer ended the shooting and took the gun from the gunman.
For everyone who wants to diminish the idea of armed officers in schools, consider this - Price Middle School has metal detectors. "The obvious question is how did this get past a metal detector?" School Superintendent Erroll Davis asked about the gun. "That’s something we do not know yet".
You cannot stop someone who is determined from committing a heinous act.
Let's say it again, the only thing that stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
Sadly, the School Resource Officer in this case is not routinely at this school. It was sheer luck that saved the day.
