Summary article with some good stats on kids and gun violence. I appreciate that there are suggestions that even though gun control laws are getting defeated that parents should "take their own steps" to protect kids from gun violence. Kind of what owning a gun is about in the first place...taking our own steps where we cant expect anyone else to protect us.
I don't care for the suggestion that pediatricians should be able to ask about guns like they might ask about other risks.
"It's no different than when we ask about safety seats in the car or bicycle helmets, or the temperature of your hot water heater," American Academy of Pediatrics president Thomas McInerny says. "We want to keep children safe. And most parents say they appreciate it."
Don't be so obtuse, Mr. McInerny. Neither hot water heaters or safety seats are polarizing the nation politically right now. Are there doctors that might refuse to treat my child because I own a water heater?
Anyways. Its a good read especially since the author manages to report the data without bias...and we should all keep gun safety in mind especially where children are concerned. So check it out here
