He is sticking up for the homeowners saying there is a new wave of street thugs out there. They know the homeowners might be armed but break in anyway. With 4 different cases of citizens shooting criminals in the last month, he says people are fed up with the crime they have to endure
"The message should be that people are going to protect themselves. They're tired, they've been dealing with this epidemic of violence, they're afraid, and they have a write to protect themselves," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig.
Chief Craig made a point that armed robbers are breaking into homes even knowing that homeowners have guns shows a different brand of criminal in Detroit.
Chief Craig continued, "If you're confronted with an immediate threat to your safety, you never have time to dial 911. So it becomes an issue of the threat's here, I have to respond to the threat"
