"Four guys came in the back door with guns, I was able to get my gun first and shoot one of them," Rogers said. "I would do it again. If they do it again, I would do it again. You got to protect your family."
Rick came face to face with multiple armed intruders early Saturday morning (July 5th). Rick was home with his girlfriend Chelsea St. John and his daughter-in-law when the intruders forced entry to the home. All of the intruders were armed.
"I cant explain to you the feeling that that is," said Chelsea. When the trio realized the intruders were inside the house, Rick ran upstairs to grab his gun. Chelsea was close behind when she was grabbed by a man police have identified as Kenneth Fry
"He grabbed me by the back of my hair and pulled me back down and said 'get on the floor, you know I will kill you.' I went to the kitchen and was going to get on the floor and he didn't even wait for me to get on the floor. He took (off) upstairs after Rick and that's when Rick shot him," says Chelsea.
Rick got to his handgun and was ready to defend his family. When Fry came upstairs he was shot and mortally wounded. His accomplices, realizing they weren't facing easy prey, fled the scene.
As Rick chased the other three out of the house, Chelsea ran out the back door and screamed for a neighbor to call 911.
Kenneth Fry was transported to the hospital where he later died.
The accomplices fled with a laptop and several other small electronics.
Rick and Chelsea had an encounter the next day with two men they believe were Fry's accomplices as the men slowly walked past the house. Rick approached the men to see their intentions. Police were called and one of the two men was taken into custody while the other fled the scene and evaded police.
How would you handle the potential retaliation from a defensive shooting like this?
