Just before 3a.m. Wednesday morning (July 16th), the Coos County (Oregon) Sheriff's Office received a call from two men frantically saying they were being shot at by a man with a shotgun. Officers responded immediately.
When police arrived, they found the two men cowering from a severely beaten man holding a shotgun.
As police investigated it became clear the two men, Joseph E. Killingsworth and Johnny R. Moore, went to the home of a 23-year-old armed with baseball bats and several aggressive dogs. Why? Retaliation because the two men, transients, believed the 23-year-old had reported them to Bureau of Land Management (BLM) authorities for trespassing.
The two took turns beating the homeowner with baseball bats, leaving severe injuries to the head, face, and back.
In a desperate attempt to survive, the homeowner lunged for a shotgun he keeps in his home and shot off two quick rounds, causing the attackers to flee and call 911.
The police saw through the BS and arrested the two men while arranging ambulance transport for the homeowner.
Never bring a bat to a gunfight... unless it's Batman.
