Tackled by intruders, an 80-year-old got to his 22LR revolver and opened fire (California)

Two Long Beach, California criminals got a harsh reminder that you can't judge a book by it's cover when they targeted an 80-year-old's house.

Tom Greer, the 80-year-old man, returned to his upscale Bixby Hills residence late Tuesday night (July 22nd) to find a couple in the middle of ransacking and robbing his home. When the criminals saw Tom, they attacked.

"When I went in there, they tackled me," Tom told NBC4. "Both of them jumped up on top of me."

The couple stopped beating Tom and went back to ransacking and robbing the home. Bad move.

While the criminals were focused elsewhere, Tom was able to get to his Smith & Wesson 22LR revolver. When the criminals saw the gun, their attitude changed.

"I come back and they see me with a gun, and they run," he said. Tom opened fire, striking the woman twice and killing her on the scene. The male fled the scene without even looking back.

"I shot her so that's going to leave a message on his mind for the rest of his life," Greer said.

Given the disparity of age and physical capability, do you think this is a clear cut defensive gun use? Side note: this did occur in California so remember that logic may or may not apply.
