Moments earlier, the woman had been startled from sleep from a ruckus and people downstairs. Two men had tried to force their way into the home but her teenage children locked the door on them.
The men then broke the door down and entered the home. The men were unarmed, the mother was not.
Hearing the commotion, she had grabbed her .25 caliber handgun. When the two men entered, she protected her children and told the men to leave the home. The men ignored her and continued advancing towards her.
Bad move. She opened fire and struck one of the intruders. When police arrived they took both suspects into custody. I'm sure you'll be shocked to hear that both men have criminal records and one is currently under court supervision.
McHenry County Undersheriff Andrew Zinke had plenty of praise for the mother,
"The mother deserves a lot of credit. She was dealing with a violent situation. She was protecting her home and her children with the only means she had. She was incredibly brave and likely prevented any of her children from getting hurt."
