BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA - Two men were shot during a gunfight inside a cramped bedroom after a one man entered his ex-girlfriends home. In a scene straight out of the movies, a couple awoke to the woman's ex-boyfriend standing at the foot of the bed armed with a handgun.
According to AL.com,
Two men were shot around 6:57 a.m. after an ex-boyfriend entered the bedroom of his former girlfriend and her current boyfriend, according to a news release. The ex-boyfriend was found lying on the floor with gunshot wounds to his head and chest, and the other man was found in the doorway of the residence with a gunshot wound to his leg. Both were transported to UAB Hospital for treatment. The ex-boyfriend died from his injuries.
Authorities said the boyfriend was in bed asleep with his girlfriend when she woke and saw her ex standing in the bedroom at the foot of the bed with a pistol in his hand, according to the preliminary investigation. The boyfriend also woke up, grabbed his pistol and a shootout ensued. Both men were struck. Investigators said the girlfriend had a previous relationship with the suspect, and he had made a key to her residence without her consent.
It sounds like his own quick reactions and bad aim from the attacker saved the woman's current boyfriend. This is one of those cases that should be used to remind gun owners to consider the security of their home.
We all love to come home with a new rifle or handgun, but have you taken the time to replace your locks with high quality deadbolts? Have you secured your windows with security screens or shatterproof films? Why not secure your house and avoid the gunfight altogether?
