OKLAHOMA CITY - An 11-year-old girl is being called a hero today after saving her mother's life just one week after being shown how to operate the handgun her mom purchased for self defense.
Responding to a 911 call around 4a.m. police found Brandy Moreno suffering from multiple stab wounds, and a blood trail leaving the home. After investigating, police say that Moreno's ex-boyfriend violated a restraining order and broke into the home wielding a knife.
Henry immediately went after Moreno and began stabbing her repeatedly. His attack was stopped when Moreno's 11-year-old daughter Jayda grabbed her mom's handgun and opened fire - striking Henry twice.
According to neighbor Carolyn Marsee, Moreno had "just showed the girl how to use the gun last week so she could protect herself". Talk about good timing.
The gun shot wounds sent Henry fleeing the house but he did not get very far. Responding officers found him in a nearby field. He was transported to the hospital and is listed in serious condition.
On September 18th, Moreno applied for a protective order against Henry, telling the court she was afraid he would hurt her or the children. Just like the Dixie Chicks song, he "walked right through that restraining order and put her in intensive care"
Luckily, Moreno's daughter had learned how to use the gun to save her mother's life.
Neighbor Carolyn Marsee said it best,
"She did the right thing, I don’t care what anybody says. She saved her mother and her brothers and sisters.
