According to this story - Kurt Smith of Douglas County Colorado in an effort to make his street safer from consistent speeding traffic illegally put up stop signs on his street. Less than a day later, the Douglas County Sheriff department removed the signs. Smith implies he has the intention of putting them up again
While I hope at the least he is looking into the proper protocol and considers any safety issues the signs might create, I applaud his efforts. He is taking a decisive stance in an ethics dilemma - that the lives of his children are more important than the fines he is going to pay.
Its not like he is dressing up as batman and attacking the drivers or anything. Where I live in South Florida the number of asshole drivers outnumber respectful drivers by 10 to 1 easy and it has become clear that the police, through no fault of their own, have no resources to handle this problem in a preventative fashion anymore. Do you think Smith's idea is viable? What would you do?
